It was another sad Friday in Maiduguri the Borno state capital when sleeping residents  had to wake to yet another horrorific day. Suspected Boko Horam suicide bomber attacked another mosque, killing at least a dozen and injured many others, security sources and witnesses said.

The attacked occurred in Jiddari Polo area of Maiduguri in a small community mosque located behind the state's Federal High Court complex.

Those living close to the area said the blast went off at exactly 5:05am during the early morning prayer time for Muslims.

A civilian JTF operative, who spoke anonymously from the scene of the incident confirmed that "so far, we have evacuated 18 bodies to the hospital alongside many injured ones that are almost lifeless".

"It was a lone male suicide bomber even though we all heard two explosions", he said.

Details of casualties are still sketchy as security officials have cordoned the area while rescue and aide workers tried to evacuate corpses and injured victims.

The commander and elder of the CIVILIAN-JTF, Abba Khalifa, had also confirmed the attack but was not forthcoming with details as he said "sorry we are still working trying to convey injured survivors to the hospital; I will get back to you on the details later".

Mosques have become main targets of the Boko Haram since May this year when Boko stepped up its suicide attacks using young girls, women and men. While the females were often deployed to the open places like markets and bus stations, the males were deployed to attack worshippers during prayer sessions.
