The Nigerian Army has on Tuesday commissioned a newly established media centre for it's counter-insurgency operation (Lafiya Dole) in the country's volatile North East.
The idea about the  media cente, which is to serve as a hub for all it's media related information dissemination needs, came about at the end of the 3rd Quarter Study Period for Army Public Relatios Officers held for three days in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital last month.
APROs had during the study period observed the need for a media center equipped with all the paraphernalia incidental to prompt and speedy divulgement of information in an articulated and organized manner.
Commissioning the new centre, the GOC of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lamidi Adeosun who represented the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General  Yusha'u Mahmud Abubakar, dosclosed that the establishment of the media centre in Maiduguri was on the order of the Chief of Army Staff, who had also delivered a paper titled "Contemporary Warfare, and War Reporting; the Dilemma of Military Leadership", during the APRO Study Period.

The Army Chief had during the event last month agreed that the media center was crucial to the counter insurgency operations hence the need for its establishment at the command and control center of the counter insurgency operations.
GOC Adeosun thereby said "the centre will be opened to the media at all time to get information on the activities of the Army in the Northeast region, specifically the counter-insurgency operation".
Addfing that the military has benefitted immensely from media reports on its activities in the troubled region and would like to take the relationship to the next stage as the operations in the Northeast reaches its crucial stage.
"The COAS, Lt. Gen. Tukur Gusau in creating the media centre in Maiduguri has shown that the media is very important to the success of the operation in the northeast and would not want to deprive them of all needed information".
He thereby counseled all working journalists to always approach the centre for needed clarifications.
