Map of Northeast Nigeria showing five out of the 6 States now under the control or onslaught of the Boko Haram |
Unconfirmed reports reaching this blog says Boko Haram terrorists may have taken over Ashaka cement factory in Gombe state, Northeast Nigeria.
If this development turns out to be true, it thus means that the terrorists would have annexed Borno state and cut off the only access of the people from Southern part of the state to their state capital, Maiduguri.
It could be recalled that the linking route between southern part of Borno state and the state capital in the central part became shut off when Boko Haram took over Damboa in August and Gwoza in September. Travelers from Biu now have to travel 500km through Gombe, Ashaka and then via Yobe state to get to Maiduguri; in the past it took travellers only 180km from Biu through Damboa to get to Maiduguri.
With the feared taking over of Ashaka it may be practically impossible for folks in Biu, Bayo, KwayaKusar, Gombe to get to Maiduguri for now.
Already, the terrorists are still expanding their Frontiers by recent isolated bomb attacks in Azare in Bauchi state, in Gombe and in Potiskum, Yobe state.
The actual human casualty in the Ashaka cement factory attack could not be immediately ascertained for now, but unconfirmed accounts of witnesses said at least five persons had died.
