Nigeria raises $666 million to support victims of Boko Haram

In a fund raising event to support the victims of the ongoing Boko Haram terrorism, the Nigerian president,  Goodluck Jonathan, led major stakeholders in the country's socio-political, economic and religious sphere to donate a total of $666 million on Thursday.

The oil and gas sector led with the highest donation of N17 million ($103,030,303), while the lest donation made even before was from an aged pensioneer who made a donation of N5000 ($30).

The President had weeks ago initiated the appeal fund to raise at least N500 billion in funds to help support the victims of Boko Haram terrorism.

The Boko Haram insurgents had in the last three year killed at least 10,000 people and rendered thousands more orphans, widows and homeless.

The Nigerian government had two weeks ago approached the country's parliament for an approval for $1 billion to help equip the country's military get modern equipment to combat Boko Haram terrorists who, for now, are better armed  that the soldiers
