Military authority at the 7 Division Nigeria Army, Maiduguri said no cause for alarm as some resonating blasts with quaking effects echoed into the sleepy township of Maiduguri causing residents to panic in fear of likely attacks by Boko Haram.
The blasts occurred at a exactly 6am, echoing into the capital city from Southern outskirts of Maiduguri.
Sleeping residents had their hearts pounding as they Jerk their heads off their beds thinking Boko Haram terrorists were at it again - most especially as some said they were kept awake for substantial part of Saturday night because their ears had picked some distant thudding sounds like explosions breezing into the troubled town.
But the military authority at the 7 Division Nigeria Army said in a text statement that it had a fore knowledge of the blast which suggested that it could be a friendly firing.
Col Sani Usman, the Spokesman of the 7 Division Nigeria Army, Maiduguri said in a text message minutes before the early morning blasts began that "please there should be no panic".
No details was given as to the nature of the blast; but experience in the recent past indicate that it could either be the troops are detonating a discovered or intercepted explosives ; or they were carrying out a routine test-firing of some weapons.
