Three thunderous explosions had echoed over Maiduguri the Borno state capital this early morning causing fear amongst residents even as the Headquarters of the 7 Division Maiduguri quickly issued a calmer that it was a "friendly firing" from soldiers of the Division.
The three blast were heard at about 7am and proceeded one another almost every other minute.
The spokesman of the 7 Division, Col Usman Sani has in a text message earlier sent to newsmen said "there should not be any panic" as the explosions were not an enemy attack.
Residents had the cause to fear following the last night attack on Yobe state capital in which terrorists on a return visit wanted to take over the town but were reportedly said to have been repelled effectively by the soldiers there.
Detials of the Damaturu attack has not been given to ascertain extent of possible casualties
