Against the official figures of 35 announced by the police authority as the actual dead casualty photographs from the scene of the blast has revealed how scores of persons were barbecued by the blasts that occurred from two cars parked near the Kano  central mosque.

The Kano bomb went off at the same time operatives of the anti-bomb squad were battling in Maiduguri to detonate several bombs planted around the city by Suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

Two of the bombs were found in a mosque in Gwange area of of Maiduguri, which is usually attended by large number of worshipers; while another explosive was found near a grocery market called Kasuwan Gamboru.
In Kano,  the bombers deliberately chose the mosque where the population was always high and let their lethal weapons erupt in a volcanic manner consuming unsuspecting worshipers, many of whom were roasted beyond recognition.  Emir of Kano,  His Royal Highness, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi had last week called on Nigerians to rise and defend themselves against Boko Haram.

The Emir, according to reports, made the call while givng a closing remarks at the end of a weekly recitation of the Holy Qu’ran as part of prayers for peace in the country.

He implored all religious and community leaders to help boost courage in their people, especially the youth, so that the society would be well mobilised to defend themselves against any kind of Boko Haram attack.

“These people( referring to Boko Haram) when they attack towns, they kill boys and enslave girls… People must stand resolute. We must remember that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had enjoined us that whoever dies in defence of his country, family, life or wealth was a martyr. People must not assume that the crisis will not reach their area.  If it comes, we are asking God to give us fortitude, but if He wishes to take martyrs from amongst us, we should be ready to give our lives. People must not wait for soldiers to protect them. There are even instances where soldiers on ground ran away in the face of attack. I call on all hunters and experts in the area of security and defence to use your expertise in seeking the pleasure of God by employing it to end the current crisis. God will grant us victory over them,” said Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

The bombers had interestingly taken their explosives to the Emir's main mosque; even though it was said the Emir was not present in the city as at the time of the blast .
