A Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Samaila Inusa, who was abducted on Sunday by unknown persons who whisked away in his car was found dead, with his corpse already decomposing on Tuesday, a statement coming from the Army headqauters said.

According to army officials Colonel Inusa was kidnapped while driving with his wife. But the abductors haf to stop on the way to drop his wife before proceeding with him to an unknown destination.

Army authority in Nigeria had announced a cash reward to the tune of N500, 000 ($1500) for any person who would give credible information on the abductors or where the senior officer was being taken. The price was later doubled 24 hours later, but no one came up to help as it would later be discovered that he was killed shortly after the abduction.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, confirmed his colleagues murder in a terse statement sent out to journalists at about 7pm.

"The Nigerian Army wishes to regrettably inform the public that Colonel Samaila Inusa who was kidnapped on Sunday 27th March 2016,  was found dead today at about 6.00pm", said Colonel Usman.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that most likely the late senior  officer was killed same day he was kidnapped by his abductors. This is because the body was found already decomposing  around  Ajyaita village off Eastern Bypass Kaduna, Kaduna State.

Colonel Usman said the decayed remains of the murdered was being moved to 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.

Though abduction of prominent persons, mostly for pecuniary purposes, have become a trend since the beginning 2016, Late Colonel Inusa's abductors did not wait or demand for any ransome. His decomposing remains suggested that he may have been killed on the same day he was kidnapped.

As a Lieutenant Colonel, Samaila Inusa was the Commander 81 Battalion located in Bulabulin, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. He was later promoted to the rank of Colonel in December 2015 and transferred to Armed Forces and Command Staff College Jaji, where he was serving until his abduction on Sunday March 27th.
