The Nigerian military circle was yesterday thrown into the state of grief when tow of its very senior officers, the chief of Training and Operations, Major General Yusha'u Mahmood Abubakar and the Acting General Officer Commanding 3-Division Nigeria Army, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu were involved in a ghastly motor accident yesterday along Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
Major General, Yushau who was the pioneer Commander of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Dole counterinsurgency operation in the northeast Nigeria did not survive the ghastly accident, while Brigadier General Aliyu survived with some injuries.
Though details of how the accident occurred was not given, a brief  statement from the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, which confirmed the incident said such information would come up later.
Colonel Usman's statement reads; "The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public of the involvement of its Chief of Training and Operations (Army), Major General Yusha'u Mahmood Abubakar and the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu in a road traffic accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu road today. Sadly, we lost Major General Yusha'u Abubakar as a result of the incident, while Brigadier General Aliyu sustained some injuries and is receiving treatment. Details will follow later.
