DHQ warns Nigerians on Boko Haram suicide bombers’ luring tactics

By Abdulkareem Haruna, Maiduguri

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters had yesterday warned citizens to beware of Boko Haram's evolving tactics of luring innocent victims to scenes of suicide bombings in order to kill them.

Boko Haram suicide bombers have in the recent times continued to contrive fresh tactics like sharing money, crying for help or even dancing in order to hoodwink credulous Nigerians.

The spokesman of the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement sent to Leadership, said Nigerians must be extra vigilant especially during the yuletide when there would be more public activities and gatherings.

"It has come to the knowledge of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram terrorists have now devised other means of inflicting harm on innocent citizens to further their terrorist cause", said General Rabeh, an acting Director Defense Information.

"Some of such tactics they now use include crying and feigning pains and shouting to attract sympathy from unsuspecting public. When a lot of people of goodwill gather to render help in the process, the suicide bomber detonates bombs, which they conceal under their clothes.  The recent suicide bombing in Damaturu is instructive.

"Similarly, suicide bombers used monetary incentives and other inducements especially in crowded places to lure innocent citizens in order to cause colossal damage to both lives and property. Yola suicide incident is fresh in our memory", he said.
