Hundreds of Boko Haram terrorists had in the past weeks given up membership of their outlawed group amidst continuous attacks and raids on their camps by soldiers of the Nigeria Army, military sources and witnesses said.

Sources in the army said most of the terrorists had to surrender their seemingly vain
struggle as soldiers sustain spontaneous and rapid counter insurgency campaigns in identified camps located within and around Borno state.

A vigilante officials in Borno state had last week hinted that over 200 starving Boko Haram terrorists had surrendered to soldiers in border villages between Borno and Adamawa state.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, had officially announced that the ongoing 'Operation Lafiya Dole', which involved tactical raid of terrorists camps via a synergy of land and air troops had yielded better results in the past months.

"The new strategies being employed by the military have started yielding positive results with scores of terrorists surrendering to troops and many more willing to surrender", Colonel Usman who is the Acting Director Army Public Relations.

Usman said part of the success yielding strategy of the Nigeria military in the operation involve pre-emptive air strikes by the Nigerian Airforce  and routes blocking by ground troops "all geared towards constricting and snuffing out the Boko Haram terrorists".

"Many of the terrorists that willingly surrendered painted images of mass panic and hysteria among their erstwhile colleagues who are feeling the noose tightening on their necks with the relentless efforts of troops and renewed vigour in operations inspired by the personal leadership of the Chief of Army Staff.
Terrorists also seem to have an inkling of what happens to surrendered suspects as regards screening and deradicalisation of innocent ones among them.

"The Nigerian Army in conjunction with the Nigerian Airforce and other security agencies will continue to devise and implement effective strategies to bring Boko Haram terrorism to a speedy end. It will also continue to receive surrendering suspects and assures innocent ones among them that surrender is the only option open to them. The Nigerian Army wishes to also appreciate the great support and information it receives from well meaning citizens. More of these are required to help towards quicker obliteration of the Boko Haram scourge in our nation.

Last week operatives of the Borno Vigilante group bore testimony to how over 200 members of the Boko Haram terrorists who had ran out of munitions and food supply dragged themselves out of their hideouts to surrender to solder in Madagali, kaya Humabza villages between Gwoza and Damboa local government area of borno state which also share boundary with Adamawa state.

"One of our operatives working around Gwoza area, Muhammed Adidas, confirmed to us that they saw how the capitulating terrorists were taken away by soldiers after they had surrendered their weapons", said Gava, who is the scribe of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Borno state.
