COAS Major General Buratai during his recent visit to Borno state |
By Blogger,
Boko Haram terrorists had had a bad day on Monday when they made repeated attempts stage yet another attack on Buratai town, the country home of Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, top military sources and witness have said.
Scores of them met their brutal death as soldiers stood their grounds and saved many residents of Buratai and surrounding communities.
The insurgents who had been experiencing rough time with soldiers since General Buratai's assumption of office as leader of the Nigerian army, continued to launch several offensives against the people of Buratai in an apparent attempt to undermine the army and government of Nigeria.
Major General Buratai has sworn to enforce peace at all cost, through the instrumentality of an operational nom de guerre tagged OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE. The new Army chief, who is from Borno state, had vowed to end the hostilities of the Boko Haram by taking the war to their enclaves "wherever they might be". He showed leadership by example when he led a troop of soldiers through the heavily mined Damaturu-Biu road, where soldiers were able to defuse several land mines that dotted the highway and once again made the road safe for use after about one year of blockage by the terrorists.
This indeed did not go down well with insurgents who are gradually getting frustrated by the new order. They attacked Buratai and killed two persons there days after they suffered serious casualty on the way to Biu.
Apparently angered by the resolve of the Chief of Army Staff, to sustain the war on them, the terrorists decided to attack the town again and again - but for each time they so tried, they were met with resistance from soldiers who did not only repel but chase them to death.
The Acting Director, Department of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, confirmed the development in a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, in which he said the terrorists last attempt was in the wee hours of Tuesday.
"I am glad to inform you that the gallant soldiers rose to the occasion and dealt with it. They however made concerted effort at about 3.00am this morning which was equally repelled by the gallant soldiers. The situation and town is cool and calm", he said.
