293 Females rescued/arrested by soldiers in Sambisa

By Blogger

In what may have rekindled hope in the minds of many Nigerians and other citizens across the globe over the possible rescue of the abducted Chibok school girls, the military in continuation of their operation in Sambisa were able to recover 293 females from the den of the Boko Haram terrorists.

The 200 girls, according to this Blogger's checks were not the abducted Chibok school girls but girls kidnapped by the terrorists from different locations of the country.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade had broken the news to newsmen in Abuja about the rescue of the 293 females last night.

Confirming the development to our correspondent in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state where the dreaded Sambisa forest is located, the Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman who spoke via phone and text message from Abuja said the females were discovered after the successful raid of four major camps of the terrorists in Sambisa.

“Of course 200 girls and 93 women were rescued today as our troops continued the offensive that has so far  cleared four  key terrorists camps in Sambisa forest here in  Borno State.

“We are proud to say that our troops have have destroyed and cleared camps like Sassa, Tokumbere and two other unnamed other camps in the general area of Alafa all within the Sambisa forest, and it was from these areas that our troops were able to rescue the 200 abducted girls (not Chibok girls) and 93 women believe to have been abducted as well.

On what is happening to the rescued females, Col Usman said “as we are speaking with you now, they are being processed and debriefed by our officers”.

He added that “a number of equipment and weapons have been captured. We will send further details and photographs soon”.

A senior military officer in Maiduguri, who would not want to be named in this report confirmed the development to journalists but further revealed that some of the women were also armed and were even engaging the solider in exchange of fire before they were later over powered tactically.

“Initially, the women also wanted to resist our troops because some of them that were trained in arms were armed with rifles and were placed by the male Boko Haram terrorists in their first line of offensive”, said the source.

“They were seriously firing but our troops were able to subdue them and rounded all of them up, before some of them began to confess being forced to become beligerent fighter. They were over 200 girls and more than 90 women that have been rescued so far. I guess they are currently being screened to ascertain their level of involvement in the insurgency”.

The source did not reveal if some of the armed women were killed during the initial resistance.
