UPDATE : 52 students killed in Potiskum as Boko Haram detonate bomb on school assembly ground

At least 52 students were confirmed dead in Potiskum Senior Science Secondary school this morning after a bomb Suspected to have been detonated by Boko Haram exploded at the school's assembly ground.

An eyewitness who called this blogger to break the news while still fleeing,  said many students and teachers may been affected as the explosive went off at the time students were observing their morning assembly.
"It is another bad day for us today,  a bomb just went off at Senior Science Secondary school Potiskum....it happened at the assembly ground ,  many body of students are presently on the ground in pools of blood... We are running home now ",  said the sources. 

A source in the hospital told journalists that 48 students were were killed on the spot.

"The bomb went off after students gathered in the school assembly which normally starts at  7:30am. 48 of them were killed by the blast,  many others seriously injured.  Three among the injured ones later died while they are being attended at the hospital",  said the source who spoke off record and wished not to be quoted.
Halima Sani Umar,  a teacher in a different school said "We heard the bomb as we were heading to school and people began to run; we had to return home,  and now all schools are closed". 

Potiskum Senior Science Secondary School is one of the densely populated boarding schools for boys located very close to Potiskum General Hospital in the heart of the town
