An explosion from a car at a very crowded spot in Azare town of Bauchi State had yesterday night killed at least five victims and injured scores others, witnesses and security sources said.
Police authority confirmed the incident and explained that the explosion occurred at exactly 9:45pm on Wednesday at a motor park.
Bauchi police Spokesman, Haruna Muhammad (DSP) said dead victims were charred beyond recognition.
"Five persons burnt beyond recognition were certified dead, while 12 others sustained various degree of injuries, and are receiving treatment at Federal Medical Center in Azare", he said.
He added that the scene of the incident was cordoned off by a police explosives ordinance disposal unit.
He said no arrest has been made yet, "but investigations have commenced to ascertain the cause of the blast".
Corpses of victims have been deposited at the mortuary in the hospital.
Azare is about 340km away from Maiduguri the Borno state capital.
Azare was first attacked by suspected members of Boko Haram on the 5th December 2011 when the attackers used explosives to destroy a police station and some commercial banks there. About a year later the town suffered yet another attack on the 3rd of December, 2012.
